Applying for a Grant

New Two-Step Process for Grants

Foundation grants are given in May each year following a call for proposals from January through March 25. We are now implementing a two-step process: First applicants will submit a one page synopsis for the grant they are proposing along with documentation of the organization's 501(c)(3) status. The Foundation must receive these by January 28, 2011. These will be carefully reviewed first by the Foundation's Grant-making Committee, and those showing promise of meeting the Foundation's mission will be invited in February to move to the second step. Any further information requested will be due on or before March 25, 2011. Final decisions are made by the entire board. Our goal is to support requests that will benefit the widest section of residents possible, creating a positive impact to the quality of life in this area. The Foundation, by law, may only give to (1) a charitable organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or (2) a political subdivision of the State of Kansas including municipalities, school districts and community colleges, provided support from the Parsons Area Community Foundation does not supplant governmental spending. Organizations must show proof of their IRS non-profit determination before an application will be reviewed.

If your organization has a question as to whether it qualifies for funding under these guidelines, please contact Anne Allen, Executive Director. Any requests submitted outside the annual granting cycle will be referred to the Grant-making Committee for their recommendation as to whether immediate action by the board is in order.

	What Does the Foundation Look for in Grant Proposals? Importance: Should this project be done? Is it significant? What evidence is there that this project will trigger action or work that the community wants? Credibility: Does the applicant organization know what it wants to accomplish? Is there evidence that it is currently achieving its goals? Capability: What skills do the organization's staff and board have? Has the organization succeeded in similar endeavors? Feasibility: Can the project get done? Has the organization allotted enough time and money?
