Ronald R. "Ron" Patchin

Ronald R. “Ron” Patchin, 78, of Parsons, passed away at 7:27 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2023, at his home.

He was born on January 14, 1945, at Parsons to Raymond A. and Anna Lee (Reasor) Patchin. He grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons schools and graduated from Parsons High School in 1963. Ron went on to attend Pittsburg State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in physical education and then a master’s degree in Recreational Therapy.

Ron served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Parsons and continued his service in the Army Reserves.

Ron lived in Helena and Boulder, Montana from 1975 to 1978 and returned to Parsons where he worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center for many years as a Recreational Therapist. He retired in 2009.

In his retirement years Ron worked at the Labette Health Core as a lifeguard and swim instructor. He also worked at Labette Community College as a swim instructor and taught CPR and First Aid classes.

He loved traveling with his family, working with kids, archery, riding bikes, golfing, playing pool, watching football and baseball, going to games, and reading westerns and spy novels. Ron attended Wesley United Methodist in Parsons, the Pittsburg State Alumni Association, Parsons men’s bowling league, and the Katy Golf Club.
