Jean R. Clemons

Jean R Clemons, 82, of Altamont, passed into eternity at 8:15am on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center, after an epic four-year struggle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Jean was born on May 27, 1941, in Gravette, AR to William E Cowart and Gladys L (Osterhout) Cowart. Gladys and her children moved to Altamont in 1953, where Gladys found long time employment as the beloved first grade teacher at Altamont Grade School. Jean graduated Altamont Grade School in 1955 and went onto graduate from Labette County Community High School in 1959.

A loving housewife and mother, Jean raised her three children and went on to start working as a secretary and clerk at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant from March 6, 1978, until she retired September 14, 2000. Jean was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont enjoying the fellowship of the other members, pastors, and families.
