Shirley Ann Chalker, 82, lifelong Parsons resident, died at 5:40 p.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born on July 15, 1941 to Dewey M. and Cora E. (McCormick) Callahan. She attended Parsons schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1959. She attended Parsons Junior College and Kansas State College of Pittsburg.

From 1957 to 1961 she worked at Interstate Music Company and at the Parsons Water Department from 1962 to 1966. In 1969 she began employment with the Commercial Bank and retired as a vice-president in 2009. In retirement she worked part time as a receptionist at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.

Shirley and Hugh W. Chalker were married July 3, 1960 at the former First Methodist Church in Parsons. Hugh preceded her in death on January 2, 2006.

Shirley was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She was a founder and past board member of Proud Animal Lovers Society (PALS), a member and past president of Chapter BS, P.E.O. Sisterhood and past board member and president of the Labette Community College Foundation. She enjoyed helping to plan and participating in bus trips with Main Street Travel, playing golf, attending her grandchildren’s events and having lunch with her Monday and Friday “Lunch Bunch”. She also was active with the team that planned the Parsons High School “Golden Reunion” gatherings. In her younger days, Shirley and Hugh loved playing music together, dancing, playing golf, and enjoying their house at Grand Lake.
