Jerry Leon Purcell

Jerry Leon Purcell, 83, of Parsons, passed away peacefully at 12:57 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at the University of Kansas Hospital with his son and loving wife of 54 years by his side.

Jerry was born March 21, 1940 in Trumann, Arkansas to Odis and Era (Baldridge) Purcell. He attended grade school in Trumann and moved to Parsons when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1958 and moved to Los Angeles where he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University.

He worked at Union Oil for 10 years in Los Angeles. In 1967 he moved to Mississippi and became part owner of McRee Southern Farms. In 1972 he returned to Parsons and worked for TecTank. From 1976 to 1992 he was employed at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant as an engineer. In 1976 he also started another business, JP’s Golf out of his garage at home. In 1988, JP’s Golf became a golf shop and driving range, which he operated up until the time of his death.

Jerry and Judy Feess were married August 19, 1969 at St. Patrick’s Church in Parsons. They enjoyed attending annual golf conventions in Florida and spending time with friends and family. Jerry loved his family and found immeasurable joy in cheering for his grandchildren at games and events. He would always be so supportive in anything his grandchildren did, be it watching a football game in the freezing winter cold or watching a baseball game in the dead heat of the summer. He devoted himself entirely to supporting his family.
