Department hosted a successful fundraiser with the fi rst Guardians of the Greens golf scramble
On Saturday September 7th the Parsons Police Department hosted the golf scramble at the historic Katy Golf Club. The event boasted 18 full teams of players that were there to help support the newly established Parsons Police Legacy Fund.
The Parsons Police Legacy Fund, in collaboration with the Parsons Area Community Foundation (PAFC) is dedicated to supporting the educational aspirations of Parsons students and bolstering community programs such as the Parsons High School Golf Team as well as other youth sports.
The primary objective of the Parsons Police Legacy Fund is to provide scholarships for students from Parsons who wish to pursue higher education at Labette Community College. The Parsons Police Legacy Fund believes in empowering our youth through education and enabling them to achieve their full potential. The Motto of the Legacy Fund is “Building Better Together.”
Additionally, a portion of the fund will be allocated to support programs like the Parsons High School Golf Team, and other athletic programs, fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among our local youth as well as helping the always popular “Shop with a Cop Program.”
Saturday’s success was only achievable with the support of our community leaders and businesses. The Guardians of the Greens Charity Golf Scramble will be an annual event and planning for the 2025 tournament is already underway. Highlights from the day’s activities was a Hole in One opportunity to win 2025 Corvette, a longest drive competition, a closest to the pin competition, and of course the overall winners. There was a cash prize for two flights of golfers with first and second place in each. The chipping contest was also a huge success.
Tom Davis was instrumental in the planning and ultimate success of the day. According to Chief Robert Spinks, Toms’s connection with the city and the community is amazing. Tom dedicates hours of time to projects that are community focused as well as donating his many talents on the grill at events for worthy causes. We are forever grateful of his support.”
Power Flame Incorporated made the largest donation for the event. Other Businesses that sponsored holes and made donations were Moore’s Liquor Store, CytoCheck Laboratory, Don’s Auto Body, Ballers Sports Bar and Grill, Ray Products, Golden Plains Credit Union, Wood Insurance, Taco Mayo, CST, Ned Wall, Napa Auto Parts, Labette Community College, The Home Store, The Flesh Company, McCarty’s Office Supply, Grandview Cabinetry, and a team from the Girard Police Department. The menu consisted of chicken donated by Timber Creek Meats, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, and the drinks donated by King Cash Saver.
The day started with an amazing cool morning just perfect for a day on the course. Tom Davis and John Ball were manning the grill to feed the hungry players as they came off the course and did an excellent job. The event met the expectation of donations by reaching our $5,000 mark for the fund.
The winners of the scramble were: In the First Flight first place went to Moore’s Liquor with team Margo Moore, Jack Martinez, Tony Fuentez. First Flight Second Place went to Power Flame Team #2 with team Lee Duncan, Morgan Stevens, David Peterson. Second Flight First Place went to Ray Products with team Bobbi Wimp, Ramey Wimp, Amiee Wimp. Second Flight Second Place was Ned Walls Team with Dane Dunlap, Gerald Beardmore, Phil Hurst.
