Evans is PALS Person of the Month

Posted Monday March 6, 2023

There are 25 dogs and 11 cats at the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter that are hoping to have forever homes this month. As spring approaches it’s the perfect time for a fresh start and our little ones are ready. They can be seen on Facebook on our Proud Animal Lovers Shelter page. Facebook has made some changes and it may seem more difficult to find our available pets. On our page, go to “More” and scroll to “Photos.” Then you can click on “Adoptable Pets” and see all of our cats and dogs.

While you’re on our page, make sure you check out our pet videos. Jennifer Dawson generously makes time in her schedule to video our pets of the week. We greatly appreciate Jennifer’s help.

Another person who has helped with our fundraisers over the past few years is Dawn Evans, our PALS Person of the Month. When asked why she supports PALS, Dawn said, “The reason I support PALS is the no-kill factor. Animals, like humans, are more than capable of being adopted. They deserve the chance to prove themselves as well.” We appreciate Dawn’s willingness to help with our fundraisers and all she does to support us.

As Dawn said, PALS is a no-kill shelter and sometimes our animals are here for quite a while. But it is totally worth the wait to find the perfect placement for these animals we love. Such was the case for Cookie, our 2,023rd dog adoption since PALS opened. She had been at the shelter since September 2022 and was recently adopted by Jen and Pete Tavernaro. She is now Maisie Jane and is living the most blessed life any dog could ever hope for.

In February, we took in seven dogs and adopted out eight. Three cats came in and four found their forever families. Now that spring is coming, many dogs will start shedding. According to information shared by Regional Veterinary Service, “double-coated breeds use their coats not only to keep them warm but also cool in the summer. It’s important to help them shed out the old, dead undercoat so that the coat functions properly to keep them cool.”

We would like to thank all who had any part in our Chicken Mary’s fundraiser. It is one of our biggest annual fundraisers and was very successful due to all who ordered lunches, all who delivered them and all who worked the carryout line. Special thanks go to Lana and her Chicken Mary’s crew for going to work so early to prepare 607 dinners and deliver them to Parsons by 10:15 a.m. Also, another special thank you goes to Ned Wall for letting us work out of the Wall Family Center. That is so appreciated.

Our next big fundraiser is our first rummage sale of the year on Friday, April 21, at the First Christian/First Presbyterian Churches. We will be taking donations on April 20. We want to thank the people of both churches for allowing us to have our sale there. The times will be announced soon.

Thank you to all in the community who continue to contribute to our donation boxes and our recycling bins, as well as those who drop off food donations. We sincerely appreciate all who volunteer their time and talents to make our shelter great. We’ve had several school groups come recently to interact with our cats and dogs. We love to give tours and are open from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. You are welcome.
